The Winfield Road Experiment/ The Addictions/ Circle the Sun/ The Rift

Ally Oop Mgmt presents a night of rock, funk, soul, jazz, reggae, blues and more with 4 incredible bands:

The Winfield Road Experiment
Embrace the rhythms, feel the heat, and melt into the music with a distinctive fusion of Soul, Latin, Jazz, and Blues. These musical virtuosos will ignite your soul one moment and serenade your heart the next. The Winfield Road Experiment has evolved into an eclectic and diverse group of musicians, now considered a must-see act within the vibrant Melbourne music scene. Immerse yourself in their energetic and jam-packed instrumental performances, featuring infectious rhythms, catchy melodies, flamboyant percussion, thunderous horn lines, and soul-stirring solos. With two released albums, notable festival appearances and the release of their sophomore album Soulsa Verde, the band are showing no signs of slowing down in 2025.

The Addictions
Influenced by many of music’s greats, The Addictions encapsulate a rebirth of retro techniques and a classic R&B sound, transforming them into a unique listening experience. Amalgamating styles of Funk, Jazz, Rock and Soul, The Addictions’ genre-defying catalogue is sonically captivating.

Circle the Sun
Circle the Sun fuses genres, occupying a space where rock meets funk and reggae, while adding a modern twist. Based in Melbourne, Australia and born from the collective passion and musical prowess that thrives on innovation, Circle the Sun boasts an eclectic sound. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Jamiroquai, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Stevie Wonder, Circle the Sun breaks free from conventions. Their music is a vibrant celebration of creativity, showcasing a seamless ability to blend diverse elements into a captivating whole.

The Rift
The Rift is an alternative/rock band from the Mornington Peninsula, featuring vocalist Scott Oakes, guitarists Calum Norton and Kyle Abercrombie, bassist Joe Fergus, and drummer Dane Toleman.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of influences, the band’s music spans everything from heavy, head-banging riffs and funky dance grooves to soft, acoustic folk tunes, refusing to be confined by any single genre. Their sound is unpredictable—one song might have you diving into a mosh pit, the next might have you swinging to the beat, and another will pull at your heartstrings with its acoustic charm. At the core The Rift’s music is an extension of themselves, creating songs that reflect both the chaos and beauty of life.
After a decade-long break, The Rift has rediscovered their spark and is ready to take on the world once again. With their sights set on the road ahead, the band is eager to share their music with new audiences, play on stages across the globe, and continue evolving as both artists and friends.

The Putbacks - Kickin' The B @ 303

The Putbacks are stone cold pros, grizzled veterans of all the tours and all the studios. As individuals, they’re the players behind so many bands it’s difficult to list. Featuring Simon Mavin on Hammond, Mick Meagher on bass, Tom Martin on guitar, Justin Marshall on percussion, and on the drum kit – Rory McDougall. Their collaboration with Emma Donovan elevates their music and Emma’s songs to another level, an enigmatic sound that can be heard on their most recent release Under These Streets (2021) written in the depths of lockdown, and prior to this Crossover (2020).

The Putbacks take their cues from the great house bands of the 60s and 70s soul studios - think of The MGs, The Meters and The Wrecking Crew, as well as film composers from David Axelrod to Adrian Younge and contemporary instrumental groups BADBADNOTGOOD and Khruangbin.

Sahul Sakti - Our Spanish Soul + Luke Koszański + Huich Goh

Join improvisation ensemble Sahul Sakti as our musical caravan journeys to Spain. It's our first gig of the year and we would love to see you as we do what the Spanish do - drink chilled beverages on a warm summer's night, enjoy the long daylight hours, and listen to live music.

In this performance, Sahul Sakti will invoke its Spanish soul and celebrate the deep personal and musical connections we have with the Spanish-speaking world. We'll recall the spirit of exploration that was in albums such as 'My Spanish Heart' (Chick Corea), 'Sketches of Spain' (Miles Davis), and 'Global Fusion' (Dr. L. Subramaniam), all of which are significant musical influences for us.

Flamenco folk duo Luke Kozsański (guitar) and Huich Goh (violin) will open the evening with a set of flamenco and folk - inspired originals and a sprinkling of classic compositions. Borne out of the joy of creating music together and a shared love for flamenco music and Spain, this project is also a quest to make the violin and guitar sing to one another.

This will be Luke and Huich's first full-fledged show, so we'd love to have your support!

--------------------------------------------

About Sahul Sakti

Sahul Sakti is an improvisation ensemble whose Sahul Sakti is an improvisation ensemble who draws on the members' post-classical, Brazilian, Asia-Pacific, jazz, and experimental music influences to create a sound that is rooted in friendship, imagination, and a deep exploration of acoustic possibilities. This project is inspired by the great global fusion ensembles such as Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble, Shakti, Dr. L Subramaniam, L. Shenkar, Nigel Kennedy, Mestre Acordeon, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

About Luke Koszański

Luke was a part of The Senegambian Jazz band, whose debut album won Best Global Act for The Age
Music Awards in 2018.

About Huich Goh

Some notable artists she has played with are the Booker prize nominee Jeet Thayil (India), graphic artist Ari Jayaprakash’s Kuru Circus and Orchestra (India), bassist producer composer Sandeep Madhavan (India), and Yusupha Nghum (Gambia).

Felix Worner + Al Speers + Hugh F

Kickstart the New Year right with a Night of Ctrl-Alt-Country!

Felix Worner, Al Speers & Hugh F come together at Bar 303 on Thursday 9 January for an intimate evening of folk and country adjacent song. Shake of the post-holiday blues right and immerse yourself in what promises to be a night you won’t forget

Doors from 7pm, Music from 7:30pm

Tickets are available here Felix Worner, Al Speers & Hugh F at Bar 303

Felix Worner is an alt-country singer-songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau, now living in Naarm. Worner’s songs evoke a strange romantic sadness, underscored by his entrancing voice and nostalgia-laden melodies that linger like a cheap perfume. The result is a solemn, woodsy, but poignant sound - like reminiscing in the mountain air; or playing a forgotten piano in an abandoned church.

Al Speers is an alt-folk musician who’s songwriting oscillates between introspection and exploration. They will be joined by Molly Jane and Tahnee Ollerton in a trio that comprises guitar, violin and three-part harmony.

If somebody was to go to a Hugh F show, they could just see some guy with a guitar singing about horses. Alternatively, Hugh F can be perceived as a charming boy with a velvety and nimble baritone voice. His folk stories are succinct, yet gripping… and yes, they are mainly about horses.

Don’t miss this opportunity

Giddy up!

Adam Franklin & Band

Adam is a multi instrumentalist, singer and songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia.   He developed as a songwriter and performer in the 1990’s Melbourne indie / alternative live music scene in the band Burnside - after which family life took center stage.

COVID lock-downs in Melbourne proved a blessing in disguise, with Adam returning to songwriting with renewed passion and urgency - writing close to 100 new songs.

Teaming up with long time friend, musician and producer Marcel Borrack and his production partner Tim Harvey, Adam’s debut album is now close to completion and due for release in early 2025.
